Considering that, when the iPhone was first announced, Jobs stated he would be happy with a 1% share of the market, Apple isn't doing too badly. If MS gets their act together with the Windows phone, I can see it getting a larger share. I guess how big a share depends on how Apple and Google respond with their own innovations.

For 99% of the market, the integrated graphics are fine. The majority of consumers don't read tech sites and are happy with the performance. The typical pc buyer doesn't know what a benchmark is. In almost every Apple vs Winodws pc argument on this and every other Mac site, the Mac fans without fail say specs don't matter. If you're a gamer, you'll notice the performance hit. To the million plus people who will buy the next model it won't make any difference.

Yes, that is the Apple mentality. No more is it about making the best machine, but about making it "good enough". That speech in 2008 with the intro of the Unibody MacBook with the then nVidia 9400m where Apple realises "graphics are important and boy did we pack this thing with graphics power!" is gone.

You're right. I should just eat my pill and accept the lesser GPU.

The only thing holding me back from a Mac before 2008 was the Intel GPU. The only thing that will hold me back from purchasing a new one after this is Air is... Intel graphics.

This is good to see. High performance chips from Intel and a great design from Apple, this will be fun to see what is announced at WWDC.

when ur at ur home you'd be connected to wifi so usage wouldn't be a problem. i don't know why anyone pays for the $15/month plan that's a complete ripoff to begin with.

My wife and I both opted for the 200MB plan because our usage over the previous year never exceeded that amount (and often never got close) even while on vacation and using Maps. Therefore paying twice that, or more, for unlimited usage is/was a waste of $. For two iPhones that saved $360/yr which is substantial for us.

If the Apple service works like DropBox to sync all my music on all my iTunes/iPod devices AND is only active over WiFi, then I will probably make use of the service since it would essentially be the wireless syncing for which many have been asking.

As an on-the-go music stream over cell service it is useless to me.

It's certainly why I haven't. I wouldn't say the U.S. is so much behind the rest of the world (although that is true) but keep in mind U.S. carriers are all about keeping people locked into contracts. It's much easier to get a phone and change providers in Europe because they don't do hardware locking to network and prepaid is more proliferant. You can get lots of these great phones (by the way, they do make 10 megapixel camera phones now) if you buy them online, paying retail prices.

The problem is most U.S. consumers are cheap as far as I can tell, most will not pay at all for a phone and even few will pay more than $100. The carriers cannot afford to subsidize these phones because even with them partially covering the cost a consumer will be looking at an over $250 cost with a contract..

The U.S. cell phone is behind other countries because the U.S. cell phone network is behind other countries. We're just now getting 3G out in most of the country but Japan has had it and two way video calls for years.

If I could afford it and was willing to take the gamble of learning a new UI, I would get the Nokia N73. But it's hard to justify spending that much on a cell phone for me and I'm more familiar with Nokia series 40 phones.
I hear you on that. Just check out DoCoMo's (http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/product/function_icon/index.html) phones (Japanese).

wow clearly no one in your family should not be hind the wheel of a car.
    You all do road rage.
One day someone will pull a gun on you.
Sadly the cop was a crappy investigatory because your mom did an illegally lane changed. plus road rage and really there was a lot of room to prove it but you had a lazy cop and then a mother who lies and teachers her son to lie and pull the same crap.

Speaking of road rage: Recently my Nana leaned out the window of her car and shook her fist at a taxi driver because he accidentally cut her off or something. It was so funny, and it was good that the taxi driver didn't take offense ;)

Yes, we'll just wait patiently while they catch up. No rush.

Oh, and Apple and Google just called and said they'll stop innovating and stand still as a friendly gesture.

    This isn't 1995.

MS is unprepared for the current competitive situation. Google has shown just how flat-footed and out of touch MS really is. We have a mass-market commodity-ware vendor that apparently has the power to give things away for free that are "good enough." Before, MS used to be the "just good enough" vendor. Then you've got Apple on the Premium end showing the way forward.

This "You just watch, MS will catch up eventually" tactic is currently and will in the future continue to produce diminishing returns.

MS is Zuning it in the current tech climate. Bad management, false starts, a string of failures, continual embarrassment . . . all of this would be no problem at all, if only investors, shareholders, directors - whoever has the power - would call for the entire top-level management at MS to be terminated. THAT is positive change. But same old same old . . .

other than android and the few apps that google sells with it they can't seem to make anything outside their core advertising business. every product they make is a failure or is forgotten by them.

Google Reader is a cool product that has been forgotten. now Pulse and Zite are making much better RSS readers and i'll probably switch. little things like this will make people leave google services. i've read that a lot of talented people like google has are ADHD or only care about making something cool and not building up on it. it took microsoft years to make windows usable and then they took market share from the competition just like it took years for apple to make iOS usable and take the mobile market

I'm hoping for a MBP. It'll be my first Mac. My son just started college and we were going to buy him a Mac Mini. Then I heard about new imacs coming and waited it out and I found that to be a better value than a mac mini. Well he just got it a week ago and it's great! Now I've decided to switch from Windows to Mac and will get a MBP but am waiting for the next generation. I was disappointed it didn't come last week but maybe the 24th. Isn't it unusual for Apple to have something like this on a Sunday? I hear so much about Tuesdays but as other's have said maybe the 19th. I've heard estimates of as late as January becuase of a meron shortage. I can't wait that long to switch to Mac! :)
Extemly likely it will be updated by end of the month at the latests. More than likely before 9/25. Not too worried about the numbers, Intel should have Apple in the prefered list and Apple not likely to expect to sell more than 1/2 mil of them, so they prob have plenty of chips. Likely it may have memry card reader, Meron, no latch, new gen chip for wireless (pre-n). Im not a Pro photographer, but anything that helps the photographer like better way to import or export photos and make life easier for them. All plus for you and me also. BTW welcome to the Family.

The only way that would happen would be for the phone to be GIVEN away at a price so LOW that nobody would refuse it. And it would have to include a data plan that costs practically nothing. And it would have to be contract free.

Oh, look! There is an ad below this for HTC Aria for just 1 - Free shipping - AT&T.

That's kind of where I was going... but businesses would switch from Blackberrys to Windows Phones. I wouldn't put it past MS to offer some sort of crazy business discount to get companies to change.

They'll change the key and force a firmware update on any airport express user who wants to update itunes.

Are the 3rd party AirPlay speakers firmware upgradable?
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/airplay/

That will break compatibility with those speakers.

    arn

The marantz one is, you have to pay $40 to uPgrade firmware to get AirPlay working at all. At least you did with early versions, not sure about current versions, AirPlay may work without upgrade with those.

After the ROKR and SLVR, is anyone really surprised that Cingular will help launch this phone?

I'm still waiting for this to hit the market. My SLVR is great, and as long as Apple does NOT make a slider, I will buy an iPhone right away.

2007 is going to be spendy. I'll have to buy "iTV", Leopard, "iPhone", and a new portable. AHHH

Yeah Apple has never done that.

Except for NeXT, Motion, Final Cut Pro, Color, Aperture, the list goes on...

The post I was replying to said that Samsung created. They haven't created anything except groceries as far as I can tell. Apple, though they have bought a lot, have created far more than they have bought out.

That, and, well, they keep their name pretty straightforward abroad. For some reason, people in America and Europe think Samsung are some sort of tech company. They are a grocery company that branched into sugar, later into construction, and finally, into tech and cars.

They create jobs here in Korea, yes, but at the same time, they vacuum the market: most people make a pittance here and Samsung have stopped up the job market. If you don't work for them, you are doomed to be a second class citizen. At the same time, you put out products that break in the home country so that abroad they perform well. Samsung are leeches that bleed Korea just to gain international recognition. Everything in our house is Samsung and everything has broken.

It was bought for us and we had no choice. I'd rather anything else, but in Korea, there isn't much you can choose from. It is either Samsung or Hyundai, or lesser companies like LG.

Again, I don't like the idea of forced IP tech, but if it puts geriatric barbarians like Samsung down a bit, I'm happy with that. If Apple get hit in the process, that is too bad, but at this level, someone is bound to stumble.

What can be offensive about being "green"?

    The idea... nothing.

    The implementation of the idea...

It's just another big stick with a flag on the end.

:confused:For that to happen, people would have to want to buy a Windows phone... I'm pretty sure hardly anyone I know even realizes that the platform has undergone a major revamp recently.

My personal opinion is that WP7 is a decent OS, but I just don't see this being a possibility with the meager selection in WP7 software.I agree. I have met only ONE person ever to have a Windows phone. Everywhere I go, iPhones are by far the #1 phone I see.

nothing wrong? and what if she didnt swerve, hit you in the back, and the collision causes the death of, lets say, 1 or 2 people. but you, mr. safe driver felt obligated to teach her a lesson.

In that case, maybe she should have moved. On second thought, that's a little blunt of me. Sure I would feel bad, but I wouldn't be wracked with guilt over it. I only punish people with my antics, when they do something to sufficiently piss me off. Had she not brakechecked me I would have just passed, and gone on my way. But she deserved what I did, and had it caused her death, well I guess she deserved it in a way; bad karma happens for a reason.

What else would you expect to hear? No company would just bow down and give up....

that's because samsung supplies all these companies with parts for their phones. Sue Samsung, risk getting the shaft on internals! We'll see what happens.

Samsung couldn't pull out on any existing deals, otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.

I'm amazed that no-one is seeing the very dangerous path we could be heading down here. Will people only see it when it's too late?

Are we looking into the jaws of the future where you pay, but never OWN anything? Music, Movies, Apps.

You pay to have the right to listen/watch/use the data.

The data is never downloaded to your device to do as you wish, it's always held by the owners. or distributors.

I can see this coming like a flashing red warning sign.

I must have the missed the part where Apple said you can not have a copy stored on your local drive. But then again I am smart enough to to not fly off the handle about rumors with no details.
