I live in Nevada and honestly the cops spend more time Giving tickets out then doing real police work. Since the state has been financial hardship, The cops are out drumming up business. Honestly, do you think someone who is Drunk is going to be checking the app for the checkpoints? Its just an excuse to get rid of these apps from the store and increase revenue. Apple dont bend to the pressure, These apps do not break any rules for the App store and if you start letting the Government decide what should and shouldnt be, is the day I finally Jailbreak my Iphone.
My God, jailbreak your phone anyway....it's fantastic!

Wanna bet that Napa64 is 100% identical to ordinary Napa, apart from the fact that the CPU is Merom, instead of Yonah? Since Napa is a platform, just chaning the CPU to something else would mean that the platform has been refreshed.I'm a little skeptical about Napa64 as well. I did read the previous links and articles on it. Why make Merom backwards compatible with Yonah?

Tom's Hardware benchmarks Intel's first quad-core "Kentsfield"
Culver City (CA) - Intel's first quad-core processor "Kentsfield" has found its way into the Tom's Hardware test lab. Several weeks before Intel will provide evaluation processors to the press, Tom's Hardware was able to obtain a qualification sample: The quad-core was sent through the entire test parcours and showed impressive performance.Nice information there. I wanted a little heads up on Kentsfield. Still, isn't it dual Conroe's with separate cache and then over the front side bus?

it is very easy to aim the gun for the chest and hit the head. For most people, that's a less than 5% change in gun angle, which for most pistols is less than 1/2" up. That is, he was aiming for the chest, and let the tip of his barrel rise less than 1/2" higher than it should go.
Which is completely reasonable if the rise was due to recoil and he didn't lower the barrel before pulling the trigger again. Another reason why gangbangers that hold the gun sideways are idiots--recoil is gonna take you off center-line and you'll start shooting arms instead of heads. :D

I am moving up from an eMac 1 gigahertz G4. So I'm sure it will seem very fast to me. Probably more than I need.
Im still stuck on my 800 mhz G4 with it's crappy 2X Graphics card. 2X!! Oh how I wait for the day when...

I hope this was in self defence. There is no other reason for him shooting the guy in the head. I hope he has an excuse, otherwise he may find himself in prison for a long time.

The Nano and Shuffles are great updates but the iPod is nothing worth me buying over my current 5th Gen iPod. I can't see myself playing lame games, 60% brighter doesn't mean too much and the "new" software could have been supplied as a free update to current 5G models.
I think I'll hang out for the genuine iPod update next year before I consider updating my 6 month old 5G one.

I'm looking at getting a new iMac fingers crossed for the following:
- Bluray (I know... but it would be nice)
- Thunderbolt
- USB3
- AMD Radeon HD 67XX-68XX with up to 2GB RAM (it wont happen though :()
- Space for 2 HDD (I know, again it would be nice for two internal drives)
- i5 and i7.. Hopefully no i3 in the line up.
- Up to 24GB...
Again if I can't get an iMac with beefier video card it looks like another Alienware with Linux...

There are ways of walking on the moon. Doesnt mean its particularly consumer-friendly.
I brought up using a phone internationally because of the technical compatibility of using GSM over CDMA. price is irrelevant. the fact that "some cdma phones are gsm compatible" is proof that CDMA has very limited use worldwide.
so basically. IF your CDMA carrier has a phone that you like AND is GSM compatible, you can take it and roam.
or. you can accept that while it may be technically superior (i said MAY. speed isnt everything) CDMA is a very tiny pocket of the mobile market.
The only reason why CDMA is basically only in the US is because it was still being developed while the EU jumped on GSM and endorsed it for every country. If your reason why CDMA is terrible is due to limited use, then, that's at best poor reasoning.

I don't think the Power Mac G5 is a good example either. Are we expecting a redesign for Conroe? Not that I don't WANT Conroe in the iMac. It just seems a bit much.
Why isn't the PM G5 a good example? True, most of those were duals, but even the single 1.6 and 1.8 G5s in the first generation drew more power than Conroe, and the G5 imacs got up to 2.1 Ghz! A resdesign would be fine by me too. :)
I'm definitely no expert on this issue, but the numbers I've seen on Conroe so far don't look all that bad. Yeah, it will be hot, but not substantially, or perhaps at all, more so than the G5.
It just seems to me that if apple wants to sell the imac as a mid-range desktop, it needs to have a competitive desktop processor. The mini can use laptop components, but the imac is both bigger and more expensive; it should compete with similarly priced PC desktops.

I take it, you do not see this ahead?
A world without Books, CD's or DVD's for sale in charity shops to help fund services in need.
Well maybe we can save a few trees with this idea? Our rainforests are disappearing at alarming rates, so if I have to sacrifice not having a book in my hands for this and have a eBook instead. So be it.
A world there you cannot give a CD, DVD, Book etc that you no longer want to a family friend as a gift.
You can still gift ebooks and music.
A world where you cannot sell on a Book, CD, DVD, Game to get a little bit of money back, perhaps to buy a new thing you want.
Be the first one to be innovative and come up with an online marketplace where it is legal to sell, buy, and trade electronic digital files. Bet this would make you some money, you can thank me later.
This to me seems where the industry wants to take us.
Everything is purchased by the individual, can only be used by the individual and locked totally to them, so it can never be passed on, given away, or sold by yourself to anyone else.
Can no one else see this is where it COULD go if we all just "go along with it"
This is a good thing in my opinion, better for the environment, and technology is taking us in directions that we not have been able to imagine years ago.

I want to see some unpacking pics of that 24inch model compared with the 20in. Soon enough I suppose.
yeah that 24 incher is a very tempting deal.
I have a Dual Core 2.0 G5 and a 20 inch monitor. I'm considering selling just the G5 and Getting a Low End Mac Pro. Or selling both and getting the iMac. I know that MacPro is better, but the price compared to what you get with the iMac is just too good. So torn.
But also looking at My 20 inch ACD right now, I can't help but think how F*#king huge that iMac must be. If they made an all black one thouth it would be over. I wish they made black ACD's and MacPro's too now that i think bout it.

I like to see some benchmarks against G4 machines and see if they make me pull the credit card out.
They've done that in this benchmark, tho only on the Speedmark test:
Speedmark 4.5 scores are relative to those of a 1.25GHz Mac mini, which is assigned a score of 100.
If you go by that, the new iMacs are about 2.5x faster.

I too am exempt. We don't clock in, but do put down hours worked on our contracts (because that is what the customer wants). Functionally I am an hourly employee, because if I do not work a full 40 hours I don't get 40 hours worth of pay.
From that description, you don't sound like an exempt employee to me. I'm not a labor lawyer, but if I was in your shoes I think I'd be reading up on the subject. There are rules that employers are supposed to follow.
What I don't get is if I did 40 hours worth of work, but in 35 hours I still would only get paid for 35 hours. I thought being on salary would remove that.
Heh, if you can do it in 35 hours then it is not 40 hours worth of work, is it? :)

It's September. There's three months until Christmas. Apple wont wait that long around this time of year without holding another consumer based event. What will the event be about? Or more importantly, what products will be at this event? Well there will be one product, one major one. The iPhone. It's coming, and my bet is, it's coming before Christmas.

Sorry if someone already mentioned orange in this thread. I just came along and couldn't be bothered to read the entire thread up to this point.
ORANGE!
Yep, seconded. And proper, bright, "safety orange."

Oh god no I hope apple doesn't cave to this kind of Orwellian garbage. I feel for all of the victims of DUIs and know that I have personally called the police on a car that was very obviously had an impaired person behind the wheel but as a non drunk driver if I want to avoid being hassled I should be able to.
You called in a drunk driver? Aren't you the fascist! Who are you to interfere the drunk driver's right to drive recklessly and kill someone? You are a responsible citizen that's what. I imagine you might feel differently about this matter if you ever bothered to console a family who's loved one was killed by a drunk driver. I rarely, if ever, agree with Sens. Reid or Schmer, but here they are dead on. This is not censorship or legislation, this is Senators using the bully pulpit to persuade responsible social action. Bully for them!
